The 25th Annual World Championship Cardboard Boat Races will take place at the Dam Site in Heber Springs on Saturday, July 30 at 10a.m. Hosted by the Heber Springs Chamber of Commerce, contestants of all ages will race cardboard boats over a 500-foot course competing for various awards.

The Captain’s Award will be given to the most creative team and boat. Boats that are considered to be engineering marvels can compete for the Pride of the Fleet Award, and those boats that don’t float can compete for the Titanic Award--for the best and most dramatic sinking.

There are divisions for youth and adults with three categories in each division - One and Two Person, Team and Mechanical. Boats entered into the Mechanical division must still be made of cardboard, but can use a mechanical device such as a bicycle-style pedal to propel them.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. Racing will take place in heats, and the winners of the heats will then race against one another until a winner is proclaimed. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division. For more information, contact (501) 362-2444.
