Written by Kristin Torres

Heavy metal is more than a genre, more than an attitude and certainly more than whatever cheap epithets are dismissively thrown at it by clueless critics. At its best, metal is a lifestyle, a community, a tribe uniting people across cultural, economic and philosophical divides with the primal pulse of bombastic and majestic expression.

A little before he takes the stage for his live performance a few days ago at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois, the legendary, multi-talented musician Rick Springfield focuses his thoughts on one of his next venues. It is in Little Rock, AR. As part of the current tour promoting his new album, "Rocket Science," Springfield will play the Arkansas State Fair on Tues., Oct. 18. Fans are eager to see this soulful songwriter, up on the stage, rocking his latest tunes. There's no other artist, whose lyrics have resonated in our minds, quite like those of Rick Springfield.

Graciously answering a few inquiries about his latest work, Springfield states the following in regard to the new album: "I think it is our best CD yet. It has some minor country flavors on it, but it is still a rock and roll record," he says. "The songs work really well live. The latest single 'Down,' I wrote with Jay DeMarcus from Rascal Flatts. That video can be seen on youtube." He continues, "We shot the video with drones on the edge of a seaside cliff."
